What happens when textile innovation meets fashion construction?

The answer became Reverie Skin, a collaborative project between Hong Kong textile innovator Elaine Yan Ling Ng and fashion designer Katerin Theys.

Presented during the Engineered Reverie exhibition at DX Design Hub in Hong Kong, the project explored the boundaries between material science, architecture, and fashion.

Using experimental textiles originally developed for interiors and furniture, the collaboration transformed paper-based and metallic materials into wearable garments that combine structure with movement.

For Katerin Theys, whose work often draws from architectural principles, the project became an opportunity to explore how innovative materials could influence silhouette and construction.

The resulting bomber jacket and skirt challenge traditional expectations of what clothing can be. Precision-engineered knitting techniques reduced waste while allowing form, texture, and movement to emerge directly from the textile itself.

The collaboration reflects one of the core ideas behind the Katerin Theys brand: design is most interesting when different disciplines meet and inspire one another.
